Two fluid ounces
A UK fluid ounce is one twentieth of a UK pint, exactly 28.4130625 ml; it was chosen so that a fluid ounce of water weighs about one ounce. A US fluid ounce is one sixteenth of a US pint, exactly 29.5735295625 ml. So a UK pint is 20 UK fl oz while a US pint is 16 US fl oz.
Labels and bars
In the UK, drinks are sold in metric sizes, and spirits in pubs are served in 25 ml or 35 ml measures. US product labels usually show fluid ounces with millilitres alongside. When a label says "fl oz" without a country, check where the product was made.
